Following the success of 2022, STET’s production team is thrilled to welcome Hanane and her inspirational play back to the stage, this time in support of the charitable organization Action for Hope.

Hanane Hajj Ali embodies many roles: she is a renowned Lebanese actor, playwright, feminist, and political activist, as well as a mother and wife. In her critically acclaimed play, Jogging, Hanane delivers a powerful, darkly humorous performance that explores the lives of four women: herself; Euripides's Medea; and two contemporary Lebanese women—one who tragically takes her own life and that of her children, and another who sacrifices her children to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Hanane confronts a poignant question: “Who is Medea today in a torn city like Beirut?” Now in her fifties, Hanane jogs daily to stave off osteoporosis, obesity, and depression. This routine triggers a complex interplay of Dopamine and Adrenaline—hormones that both build and destroy—mirroring Beirut’s cycle of destruction and reconstruction.

Alone on stage, jogging, Hanane—woman, wife, mother—gradually unveils her true identity, intertwining her multiple personas like Russian dolls. The exploration of Medea's motivations lies at the heart of this transformative performance.
